Public Safety

Public Safety

Campus safety is our priority.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) at Butler University is dedicated to keeping our campus safe. We offer educational and awareness programs on crime prevention and emergency response for students, faculty, and staff. We also continually make safety enhancements to campus grounds and develop precautionary measures that touch every aspect of campus life.

Dawg Ride, our on-campus transportation service, operates from 7:00 PM to 3:00 AM, Wednesday–Sunday, during the academic year. Safety transportation escorts also are offered from dusk to dawn, and outdoor emergency call boxes allow immediate access to a uniformed police officer.

Our police patrol supervisors and police officers are appointed under the statutes of the State of Indiana with full police power and are graduates of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Officers are available 24-hours-a-day throughout the year.

Annual Security Report

The annual security and fire safety report (ASR) is a requirement of the Higher Education Opportunity Act, specifically the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Crime Statistics Act.
