entrance to get to the Observatory. Make a Right at Lilly
Hall and the Observatory is at the top of the
Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium has been serving Butler
University students and the Indianapolis public for over 60 years.
The observatory, one of the largest public observatories in the
world, houses a 38-inch Cassegrain reflector in addition to a
number of smaller telescopes. It is the ninth largest telescope

during our regular public tours listed above or groups can schedule
private tours at other times.

The telescope has undergone a
$425,000 refurbishment by Astronomical
Consultants and Equipment. Additional testing is yet to
be done in the coming months but our vastly improved 38-inch
telescope has been used for public viewing. Periodically in the
coming months we may have to take it offline for tweeking.
But have no fear we have a wonderful backup telescope that is
perfect for viewing Jupiter and the Moon.
