We at the Center believe that college is a tremendous time of
self-discovery. At the heart of this process is learning the skills
of discernment - the practice of reflecting on your values,
beliefs, and on what fires up your energies so that you can
discover what it is that you are called to do.
The center's ultimate goal is to help members of the Butler
community develop lives of purpose, meaning, and contribution. And
from what students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends have
reported, it has succeeded.
At the CFV we provide students with the opportunity to discover
what a life of purpose, meaning, and contribution means to them.
Each student is unique and will follow a different path of
discernment. The Center for Faith and Vocation offers programs and
services that aid students in the journey of self-discovery.
I am pleased to announce
the appointment of Daniel Meyers as Director of the Center for
Faith and Vocation. A graduate of Willamette University (Oregon) in
Biochemistry and Religious Studies, Meyers earned a master of
divinity at Yale Divinity School, was ordained in the United Church
of Christ, and is currently completing a two-year position as Earl
Hall Religious Life Fellow in the Office of the University Chaplain
at Columbia University.
While at Willamette, his participation in the Lilly Project, a
summer Lilly Project Internship, and on the Lilly Project Advisory
Board fostered Meyers' personal journey of discernment. At Yale, he
assisted with alternative spring break programs serving areas of
need in New Haven, Connecticut and an inter-religious leadership
council. At Columbia, he has created Exhale, a space for student
reflection, awareness, and discernment and has promoted diversity
and interfaith literacy both in a pastoral care role and by
facilitating student-driven cross-cultural and interfaith
Additional previous life experiences that inform Meyers' work
are placements at the Yale New Haven Hospital, a Connecticut
hospice, and three years teaching in Newark, New Jersey public
Meyers will assume the responsibilities of Director on June 1,
2015 with the goal of providing dynamic leadership for the Center
in its second decade of contribution to the Butler University and
